Gol - Farsetberget The cliff is situated west of Gol town center. THe wall faces east with a great view of the valley.
Climbing The lower sector is vertical or overhanging, while the upper sector ("Tjuvkjellerveggen", read more under history) is mostly steep bare rock. "Tjuvkjellerveggen" is much barer at the foot of the wall than at the top. Some of the routes could need a good scrubbing. It's great to climb here in the shade in the summer after 3 pm. Farsetberget deserves more visitors than it is currently getting. NOTE: The wall dries slowly after rainfall.
Geology The rock consists mostly of diorithic to granithic stone.
Directions: From Gol: Follow Rv52 towards Hemsedal. After app. 200-300 meters, turn right towards Tuppeskogen. Follow the road Tuppeskogvegen all the way to the crossroad Rotneim/Hemsedal. Turn right and go app. 50 meters. THen get on the gravel road to the left (skaraåsen-toll bar) Follow this for about 1,5 km. Park in a sharp left turn.Follow the trail from the parking sign towards "Skaga". 50 meters after a gate, walk up to the cliff.
History The wall was developed in 1997, and the upper part has been named "Tjuvkjellerveggen," the thief's cellar wall. The names comes from a cave beneath the wall, where legend has it that athief used to hide in the cave with his loot. Terje Halstengård and Åge Bjørnstad were looking for new walls to develop. Thhey had been looking at a wall further down, but some teachers at the nearby school made told them about Farsetberget. The wall was coverded in brush, but Åge and Terje saw the potential. After much hard work the wall was uncovered and ready for drilling. There is still great potential for developing new routes in nearby walls.
The book "Klatreperler" There are several great climbing walls nearby; Natten in Nesbyen, Sundreberget and Husarberget in Ål. The book "Klatreperler" contains 20 routes and may be a source for inspiration for both new and experienced climbers. The book costs NKR 299,- and can be bought at the tourist information or ordered here
NOTE: All climbing is on your own resposibility.
